SUMMARY:Twilight Farm Tour & Pasture Walk
DESCRIPTION:Move Fence in Your Pajamas & Be Back in Time for Your Morning Coffee! Tour our easy & efficient livestock water & fencing system for rotational grazing on high quality pastures. Hosted by Haly and Joe Schultz at Marth Family Homestead. Dinner will be provided! Please enter the address as written into your GPS for the accurate location: N4263 County Road G\, Neillsville\, Pine Valley\, WI 54456 \n\n\n\nLearn What NOT to do….and What Finally Worked For Us! \n\n\n\nIn 2023 & 2024\, an additional 50 acres of pasture were added to the Schultz farm and 2\,000 feet of deep-buried poly waterline and aluminum quad electrical wire were trenched-in\, 6-8 feet deep with a field tiling machine to serve 3 JUG waterers strategically located throughout pasture for rotational out-wintering and future expansion of pasture acres.  An unused\, “remote” well was resurrected\, pressurized\, and used to supply both above-ground seasonal polypipe waterlines and the buried line with NO HEAT needed for the well or pressure tank–various well systems were tried before finding one that would work without heat. \n\n\n\nOther grazing-season waterline systems will be discussed: One gravity-fed from a water wagon and one hooked into a traditional residential well set-up. \n\n\n\nOther potential topics for discussion: preparing for out-wintering of cattle\, custom raised dairy heifers on pasture\, Murray grey beef cattle\, direct marketing of beef (grass-fed and sold through our on-farm store as well as bulk quarters\, halves\, etc.)\, the use of federal Value-Added Producer Grant (VAPG) funds\, NRCS EQIP conservation program funds for grazing projects\, pasture seed mixes (grazing annuals & permanent pasture)\, and how to graze through drought & monsoons.
