SUMMARY:Field Day Potluck: Pork on the Prairie at Dorothy's Range
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Dorothy’s Range for a thoughtful\, on-the-ground exploration of how farming and ecological restoration can work in harmony. Our host April Prusia raises pigs which are pastured seasonally behind electric fencing and are fed local organic feed\, while her partner Steve focuses on the ecological restoration of Erickson Creek (a trout stream that runs through the property)\, oak savanna\, and a diverse restored prairie on the property. April and Steve work together so that the farm can both be a productive heritage hog operation and create thriving habitat for rare songbirds and diverse wildlife. The land hosts numerous insects and rare songbirds\, with the Bobolink being one of April’s favorite. Her motto is “Bacon and Bobolinks!” Some of the infrastructure they have installed includes water diversion from the barn gutters away from the barn yard\, solar panels\, and barn upgrades funded by a grant from Frontera.  \n\n\n\nThis event is a learning circle gathering and tour\, with a Potluck Meal. Please bring a dish to share.  \n\n\n\nTHIS WILL BE A NO-WASTE POTLUCK. Please bring a plate\, mug\, and silverware for yourself. We will compost on site. \n\n\n\nParking is VERY limited and tricky\, so the event will be limited to 40 people. SUMMARY:Field Day Potluck: Crops and Cattle for Soil Health at Siverling Centennial Farm
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning about Regenerative Agriculture and Soil Health? We have the farm for you! Come join us for a day of networking\, exploring\, learning\, and sharing at a mixed-species managed grazing farm with crops and gardens. \n\n\n\nSiverling Centennial Farm is a 320 acre farm located in Bloomer\, WI.  They are certified organic and rotationally graze about 150 beef cattle. They also have pastured pigs\, a vegetable garden with a CSA program\, and raise organic row crops.  We will tour the pasture and gardens\, as well as their on-site inspected butcher facility\, certified kitchen\, and farm store. \n\n\n\n“We farm in a way that produces healthy\, quality food for our community\,” says farmer host Vanessa Klemish. Bring your questions and curiousity to this visit\, along with comfortable hiking shoes. \n\n\n\nThis event is a network gathering and tour\, with a Potluck Meal. SUMMARY:Prairie Potluck! Brunch and Learn in Pepin County
DESCRIPTION:About the Event \n\n\n\nCome tour a prairie side-by-side with Conservation Coach Sally Farrar\, natural resource professionals\, and neighbors that can build our knowledge of prairies\, prairie establishment and restoration. Sally Farrar\, a passionate prairie steward from Pepin County\, will lead a hike through her personal prairie and explain the process in regards to seed selection\, pollinators and native grasses\, drilling vs. tilling\, prairie burns and more. Learn about specific grasses\, pollinators\, wildflowers\, grassland birds and other biodiversity that prairies foster. The event is free of charge\, but we ask you bring a dish to pass. Registration is required. \n\n\n\nSally Farrar is a Conservation Coach with the WiWiC project and also own 72 acres is Pepin County including a mix of open\, forested and prairie. Her curiosity about conservation\, along with some initial inspiration having observed and participated in the restoration with Cynthia Lane\, fueled her own initiative to restore a 13-acre prairie and go on to add more pollinator habitat in future years. She says\, “The path of conservation can become a way of being\, often a quiet and unseen mission that can lead to great personal reward and fulfillment.” \n\n\n\nOthers will be invited to share their conservation experiences as well. SUMMARY:Solstice Potluck! Lunch and Learn and Make Art with Regenerate MKE!
DESCRIPTION:This on-farm gathering will be an opportunity for women landowners\, growers\, and conservation professionals to connect around their shared interest in land stewardship and to learn from one another.  It will be a casual lunch potluck hosted by Karen Lemke\, on behalf of Regenerate MKE\, which supports networking among permaculture-minded organizations in the Milwaukee River Estuary/ Rivershed.  The permaculture principles and ethics such as “Fair Share\, People Care and Earth Care”. \n\n\n\nDr. Karen Lemke has been organizing around re-localized food systems since 2009\, and is a member of the Design School for Regenerating Earth\, hosting conversations about organizing our bioregions and processing collapse-acceptance/grief related to climate change.  She conducted research on the power dynamics of who defines what local food is\, and advocates for returning to relationship-based food\, loving on everyone who helps get fresh food into our bellies. \n\n\n\nOthers will be invited to share their conservation experiences as well. Please bring a chair and a dish and/or beverage to share\, and any questions you may have.  Regenerate MKE strives for zero waste event planning! If you are interested in a conservation opportunities for your land\, this is the gathering for you to bring curiosity and questions! \n\n\n\nTo avoid cross-contamination please do not wear boots or other footwear that is used around livestock or poultry. SUMMARY:Spring Learning Circle: Klemish Creamery in New Auburn
DESCRIPTION:This gathering at Klemish Creamery will be a networking potluck\, but also an opportunity for women to meet entrepreneur Dixie Klemish and tour the processing plant at this small dairy. \n\n\n\nDixie began Klemish Creamery in November\, 2022\, making ice cream on the small family dairy farm co-owned with her husband\, Randy.  Randy and Dixie raised three children on the farm that has been in Randy’s family since 1889. Dixie recently retired after 34 years as a rural mail carrier and is currently in the process of becoming a licensed WI cheesemaker and expanding the creamery business to offer more value-added dairy products. The family enjoys welcoming people to the farm to enjoy ice cream and also to give them the opportunity to experience small farm life. \n\n\n\n“The number of small family dairy farms in our state has dwindled over the decades. We are pleased when people visit our farm and have a chance to experience an important part of Wisconsin tradition. We built Klemish Creamery on the farm to produce small batch ice cream and intend to expand into other value-added dairy products in the future. Klemish Creamery is excited to provide a gathering place for Wisconsin Women in Conservation to discuss and share ideas on land stewardship and other conservation practices\,” says Dixie. \n\n\n\nThis networking event will encourage peer to peer learning with WiWiC Facilitator Rebecca Christoffel leading a discussion on conservation practices that can be adopted based on landowner needs. \n\n\n\nOthers will be invited to share their conservation experiences as well.
