SUMMARY:WI Demo Farm Network Diversification Focused Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wisconsin Agroforestry Demonstration Farm Network at our summer field days! \n\n\n\nAt this diversification-focused field day\, we’ll be visiting three farms in Dane County that have experienced transitions\, including generational transitions and expanding the variety of enterprises they’re focused on. \n\n\n\n9-10:30am: Little Heathens Farm Tour \n\n\n\n10:45am-12:15pm: Door Creek Orchard Farm Tour \n\n\n\n12:30-1:30pm: Lunch at The Flower Factory \n\n\n\n1:30-3pm: Flower Factory Farm Tour \n\n\n\nLittle Heathens Farm: Molly and David Waisman diversified the 12 acre asparagus farm they moved onto in 2012\, adding sheep and agroforestry plantings like their 12 year old windbreak. \n\n\n\nDoor Creek Orchard: Liz Griffith took over managing her family’s orchard\, and in addition to a wide variety of apples\, stewards diverse projects like various fruit trees\, grapes\, prairie plantings\, and silvopasture with a small flock of sheep. \n\n\n\nThe Flower Factory: Derek Nedveck is working to transition his family’s nursery business by incorporating diverse plantings of fruit trees and shrubs\, beekeeping\, and forest farming to create value added products. \n\n\n\nCost: $12 (lunch included) \n\n\n\nThe registration fee will be used to provide travel stipends for farmers to attend the event. Please email eleanor@savannainstitute.org if a travel stipend would help allow you to attend. \n\n\n\nThe Wisconsin Agroforestry Farm Network is made possible by a partnership with the Savanna Institute and NRCS-WI. SUMMARY:Graze! Summer Field Day at Golden Banty Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join MNWiC for a terrific grazing discussion with Jennifer Olson at Golden Banty Farm in Villard\, MN. Jennifer is the third generation of her family to operate Golden Banty Farm along with her husband James and their three year old daughter Lainey.  She runs a mixed herd of commercial and registered British White cow-calf pairs on a rotational grazing system.  She has utilized NRCS and Minnesota Department of Agriculture funds to implement several projects including native seeding\, fence and waterline development\, and cattle facilities.  \n\n\n\nJennifer has a lot of experience and knowledge to share and you can expect to hear about animal selection\, farm transition planning\, low-stress livestock handling\, cooperating with federal and local agencies\, finding funding\, and most of all practicing grazing as a holistic managment. \n\n\n\nJeff Duchene\, the Minnesota state grazing specialist for USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service\, will be in attendance – bringing along the NRCS Grazing Trailer to showcase practical fencing\, watering systems and materials. Jeff has been working with the Olsons for some time and is a wealth of knowledge. \n\n\n\nDetails and RSVP here:

SUMMARY:Cavern Point Farm Pasture Walk and Tour
DESCRIPTION:Jason and Jocelyn Cavadini and their five children manage a Red Angus beef herd on 70 acres of pasture. They use management‑intensive rotational grazing with the goal of extending the grazing season through December. In winter\, the herd is outwintered using bale grazing. Afterwards\, the outwintering area is seeded with an annual cover crop mix for quick forage and to prepare the sight for reseeding of perennials in the fall. We’ll cover how to extend the grazing season with stockpiled forage\, the soil‐building benefits of well-managed bale grazing\, and effective pasture renovation practices.
