DESCRIPTION:Northwest Wisconsin Graziers Network\, Shell Lake-Yellow River Watershed Producer Led Council and UW-Madison Extension would like to invite you to attend this year’s winter grazing conference in Shell Lake from 8:00-3:45 on Saturday\, March 1\, 2025. \n\n\n\nThe conference will be held at the Shell Lake Community Center\, 200 West Lake Drive next to US Hwy 63. The Community Center is less than a block east of highway 63 in center of town. Registration and the trade show will start at 8:00 AM. The meal will be catered by Fiddlehead Kitchen with Grass-fed beef donated by Adam Wabrowetz of Sawyer Creek Cattle Co. of Shell Lake. \n\n\n\nThis conference will continue our strong tradition of an informative and friendly networking environment to learn about grazing and conservation opportunities through the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS)\, livestock health care skills\, economics of bale grazing\, and two grazier panels on their adaptive grazing strategies and on their approaches starting silvo pastures with goats and virtual fence along with other helpful information. See agenda for more details. \n\n\n\nThe conference should be of interest to new farmers\, part-time or full-time operators\, low-income startups\, graziers or non-graziers alike. Several agency and commercial exhibitors will be available to network with throughout the day. \n\n\n\nAdvance registration for the conference is due by Wednesday\, February 26\, cost is only $20 and includes lunch\, refreshments and materials. DESCRIPTION:Managing Your Green – A Farm Finance Series for Graziers \n\n\n\nSession #4: Don’t bet your bottom dollar \n\n\n\nJoin us Tuesday 3/4 in-person or virtually (Zoom link below) from 5-7PM at the Golden Sands RC&D office to hear from Jason Cavadini and Aaron Pape on enterprise selection\, enterprise budgeting\, & cash flow planning for your grazing operation. \n\n\n\nJason Cavadini is the Grazing Outreach Specialist with the UW-Madison Division of Extension. He conducts research\, outreach\, and educational programming focused on perennial forages\, livestock-integrated cropping systems\, and managed-grazing for farms of all scales. Jason grew up in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin where he developed an appreciation for soil and water conservation farming practices. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Crop & Soil Science from University of Wisconsin-River Falls\, and a master’s in Agronomy from Purdue University. Jason is a Certified Professional Agronomist and owns and operates a cow-calf to finish grazing operation with his wife\, Jocelyn\, and their five children. \n\n\n\nAaron Pape and his wife run Pape Family Pastures near Peshtigo\, WI. They are a diversified grazing farm raising grass fed beef\, pastured pigs\, pastured broilers and custom grazing dairy heifers. Aaron’s work as a farm business consultant influences his management as he emphasizes the importance of managing finances and human resources to achieve land and lifestyle goals. \n\n\n\nRefreshments provided. This is session no. 5 of our winter series Managing Your Green: A Farm Finance Series for Graziers. \n\n\n\nPaul Dietmann is Senior Focused Lending Specialist at Compeer Financial\, a member-owned Farm Credit System cooperative in the upper Midwest.  He co-leads Compeer’s Emerging Markets program\, providing loans and business planning assistance to farmers who market their products directly to consumers or who are engaged in value-added production\, processing\, or marketing. He is based in Prairie du Sac\, WI. \n\n\n\nDietmann has been helping family farmers with farm financial management issues since the mid-1990s\, first as a county agricultural agent\, then as director of the Wisconsin Farm Center\, as Wisconsin’s Deputy Secretary of Agriculture\, and now with the Farm Credit System.  He is co-author of the book Fearless Farm Finances: Farm Financial Management Demystified and author of Turning Grain Into Dough: Farm Financial Management for Organic Grain and Crop Rotation. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) \n\n\n\nBird flu is a threat for everyone who raises poultry. While previous outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) had a much greater impact on large poultry producers\, the current outbreak is hitting just as many small flocks as large ones. This webinar will provide information on steps pasture-based poultry producers can take to avoid becoming infected. We will hear from Dr. Tyler McAlpin from USDA who will share important resources and information. We will also be joined by Marty Thomas discussing what happens when your flock does become infected based on his experience at his own farm.
